Grape and Cherry Commodity Mapping (California)
Using a variety of data collection and mapping techniques, approximately 11,500 acres of grapes and cherry commodities were mapped and entered into an ArcGIS Desktop geodatabase. Attributes describing blocks, sub-blocks, number of vines, grafting techniques, and commodity variety were entered. Maps were created and analysis was performed on commodities. Multi-year temporal databases were created for time-based analysis.
Enhanced 9-1-1. Madison County. (Montana)
Global Positions, LLC. successfully implemented a complete E-911 for Madison County Montana. This four-year project involved the development of numerous database and mapping components. Initially, structures, roads and driveways were mapped with GPS. Roads were analyzed and named, and the origin of each road was established. Using Dynamic Segmentation within ARC/INFO, routes were created and calibrated for all roads in the County using a 1/100th of a mile frontage interval. New addresses were generated and the Master Street Address Guide (MSAG) was verified with immediate phone companies and service providers. Phone numbers from telephone companies were matched to newly created addresses. County Residents were notified of their new address. MSAG, ESN, and ESZ were developed. Hardware and software were installed. The system is live!
Wildfire Hazard Assessment and Mitigation.
(Glacier National Park
A Wildland Fire Hazard Assessment was conducted on 2,092 structures and used to develop a Wildland Fire Hazard Mitigation Plan for Glacier National Park, the Blackfeet, Rocky Boy, Crow and Fort Peck. The project's goal was to increase awareness of wildland fire risk and aid land management planning for reducing the potential for wildland-fire damage or destruction of homes and buildings. This process included inventorying and mapping structure location and community infrastructure, identification of alternative firefighting water sources and helicopter dipping locations, mapping wildland fuel (vegetation), modeling potential surface and crown fire behavior to help identify areas of high risk to wildland fire spread. The project was performed with Montana Prescribed Fire Service, Inc.
Growth Policy Plans (MT, WY)
Provided GIS support, mapping, and GIS analysis as part of a growth policy project for the planning jurisdiction of Pondera County, MT. The GIS component of this growth policy project involved the creation of cartographic products and inventory and integration of spatial data into an ArcGIS Geodatabase. Maps were generated based on spatial analysis and project needs. Spatial inventories, map compilation, and documents were generated in cooperation with County staff and project participants to support the comprehensive master plan. This said growth policy project conforms to the requirements of Montana state law (76-1-601 through 76-1-606, MCA)
Beartooth All-American Road Way-finding (Wyoming, Montana)
This project involved creating a way-finding map for the Beartooth Highway for Friends of the Beartooth All-American Road. The Beartooth Highway is a 68-mile travel corridor, beginning (at its eastern most terminus), just south of Red Lodge, Montana at an elevation of 6400 feet and ending near the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone National Park and Cooke City and Silver Gate, Montana, at an elevation of 7500 feet. In between those tow elevations, the road rises to 10, 947 feet at Beartooth Pass in Wyoming.
Cartography and Custom Maps
Jere Folgert has generated maps used for “Expert Witness” groups in court hearings to include water usage discrepancies and airplane crashes. Global Positions has developed numerous custom map products including the award winning TerraTopo map project for the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. Winning First Place in Show and Creative Cartography at the 1995 Inner Mountain GIS Conference. Some of Jere's maps are on display at the Bozeman-Yellowstone International Airport, private collections, businesses in Montana, and Red Lodge chamber of commerce.
