02.What is ArcGIS ® and Intro. to ArcCatalog.
In this tutorial we're going to explore ArcGIS ® Desktop, its components and then dive into an introduction to ArcCatalog and see how Catalog fits into ArcGIS ® Desktop. We'll compare Catalog with Microsoft Windows Explorer.
Tutorial Time: 11:33 minutes
03. ArcCatalog Interface. This in-depth tutorial
takes a detailed view of ArcCatalog and its interface components. This tutorial should spark new ideas as well. You will learn to use the core interface elements including view options, tool bars, custom controls and how to view file types.
Tutorial Time: 43:28 minutes
04. Working with ArcCatalog in a Project.
In this tutorial create folder connections, create thumbnails and preview geographic information assets. We'll work with tables, add new fields to tables, export tables customize the interface, review coordinate systems, map projections and make ESRI shapefiles.
Tutorial Time: 1 Hour - 2 minutes
05.Introduction to ArcMap and the Interface.
We're going to gaze deep into ArcMap and its interface components exploring toolbars, table of contents, drawing order and adding data. We'll customize the interface, work with active data
frames, search for data, review hyperlinks, short
cuts, label features and attributes.
Tutorial Time: 13:02 minutes
06. ArcToolBox, Command Line and Model Builder. In this tutorial we're going to use these tools to facilitate geoprocessing tasks. You will learn how to use the Clip tool and Buffer tool and learn
how to execute a tool from each of these components. We'll discuss saving scripts and components and learn how to automate geo- processing tasks .Tutorial Time: 49:37 minutes
07 .Creating New Data & Editing Data. We're going to create new data for use in ArcGIS! We'll explore edit sketches, line segments & the sketch tool. Focusing on editing operations, we'll learn how to use the snapping environment and create new shapefiles and a personal geodatabase. Before digitizing, we'll set snap tolerances. Tutorial Time: 1 Hour - 23 Minutes
08. Working with Tables, Graphs and Reports. We'll look at attribute tables, spatial geometry & table operations in this lesson. We'll append fields for labeling, perform table association and review joining tables and cardinality. We'll work with Microsoft Excel data and add worksheets from Workbooks, create reports and export graphs and reports!
Tutorial Time: 1 Hour, 20 Minutes
09. Making Maps with ArcMap. In this tutorial we'll explore cartography & map making. We'll begin by reviewing the basic aspects of map design including map scale, use of color on maps, fonts, visual contrast, figure-ground relationships and unity. We will create a maps with ArcMap and focus on adding thematic layers, raster data, multiple data frames & graticules. Tutorial Time:: 1 Hour - 15 Min
10 .Image Registration. In this tutorial we'll look at image registration methods. We'll register images to vector maps and use a first order polynomial transformation to model rotation, scale and a translation. - an essential GIS skill. We'll create a registration file for images by rubber sheeting the image by choosing ground control points using tools within ArcMap. Tutorial Time: 23 Minutes
11. Key Terms and Definitions. In this tutorial session we'll review key terms, vocabulary and definitions as related to geographic information systems (GIS) and ArcGIS ®Desktop.

I am an engineer and am just learning ArcGIS. This introduction has very good content with some semi-advanced usage of ArcGIS (specifically ArcMap and ArcCatalog). I I found this to be good stuff. I was learning mostly by clicking on various menus until this KnowGIS Training Kit arrived. I like to watch and learn - this is how I learn and KnowGIS does that well. I am referencing its many examples on a regular basis. This is good stuff and would recommend.

I purchased training DVD (KnowGIS) it provided me exactly what I was looking for. I must say that it was the most helpful training video that I've ever used. Thank you for your excellent service. I wonder if you have other more vids? , I am really curious to purchase it too. Please, if that is the case let me know. I would like an advanced+ level too. Let me know if/when you have it.

This video training nice to watch and a great resource for someone trying to learn Arc GIS because the material covers important and different topics in very detailed manner and the videos are helpful in learning the software. One can start learning at one's own pace without much help from anyone else and take a break without getting lost and frustrated like in instructor led classes.. Its a good refresher too, as I can go back and watch the instruction on how to register an image after I forgot a few months later.

I am commenting on the KnowGIS 9 version of the video training. Quite simply, I feel it is probably the most productive and interesting introduction you can get for ArcGIS. It gives a understanding of ArcGIS and GIS concepts and reveals how to do tasks. I have viewed these twice so far. If I did not memorise a task, I can watch the video again. It provides good ideas and step-by-step tutorials that are easy to follow and informative. The videos are fun to watch too.

If you want to learn ESRI's ArcGIS on your own, this is a really good alternative - especially if you learn by watching - not reading (e.g. Getting to Know ArcGIS book). Like taking an Intro. to ArcGIS I and II from ESRI (which would be my first choice) costs a bunch of cash; certified classes is over $800. This is a lot less money and is worth the price for sure, and you can watch it over and over again for a refresher. Can't do that with the ESRI class. We use this video training as the beginning and intermediate GIS course for new employees. Price beets an ESRI-authorized instructor and a professor's time. The material is pretty darn good..
